Coding Unplugged by Rachel D.

Yesterday we did an unplugged activity.  There were patterns and each partner had to program it on a piece of paper for the other partner to follow.  They had to draw the pattern on a graph. Today we made up robots and drew them on paper.  Everyone came up with a different name, a purpose, and how tall their robots are.  This helped us understand how variables work when programming. What is a variable? It is a placeholder for a piece of information that may change. This week was so fun.

Q. A Chef, An Artist, and A Snowman Maker: How Are They Connected? by Ryan

Peas for dinner

Answer: Coding. We are currently working on code projects on a website called Kahn Academy. I have used code commands such as ellipse, rect, triangle, and fill. They all do certain things including making circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, and coloring them all in. When put together, those things can make snowmen, pizza, paint palettes, and much more. Once we are done with a project, we can post it on a class website called app.seesaw.me. Other classmates and teachers can view your post and comment on the project you made. This weeks technology is so much fun and me and my friends can't wait to do more coding.

Game Design #Unplugged by Jake

Disaster Run: Game Design Idea to Battle Natural Elements

Today we are sketching up ideas for video games. We are soon going to use codes to make our games real. My partner and I are making a game called S.V.G which stands for swords verses guns. We know it is violent and that's why there is no blood. We play a lot of video games so it was easy to come up with an idea.

Game Design and Coding with JavaScript!

Welcome to our newest 5th grade exploratory! Here students will learn the fundamentals of game design and JavaScript to create an innovative game. Reinventing the World with Minecraft by Jamie

Ideas are filling the room. We are currently working on minecraft making prototypes for our inventions. We are also building houses, walking around, exploring, and talking to friends. What is the benefit of this you might ask? Well, it teaches us to be responsible digital citizens, respect each other's work, and learn to communicate positively in a digital format. As I can see everyone is having a fun time on minecraft. We just switched to creative mode so now we have everything we need to make a prototype. This project is soooo fun.

Making It Creative by Adam

In fifth grade technology, we are building a business plan for the items that we want to sell. In the business plan fifth graders have to include: how they will sell their product, how they will make their item, and how they will catch the customer's eye. Fifth grade has come up with their own unique ideas and are going to try to "sell" it when they are done. Everyone has been working hard and cannot wait to finish their business plan.

Crowdsourcing Our Ideas by Jack

“There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages.”- Mark Twain

We will be exploring entrepreneurship. We have learned about Silicon Valley, patents, and crowd sourcing.  Crowd sourcing can help you improve each other's ideas. Here are some of the ideas that we came up with:
Jack- 3D Hologram that Can Speak to You, That you can feel and that can understand you.
Jamie- Watch that Has a Pop Up TV that you can plug headphones in and watch TV, also serves as regular watch.
Caleb- Fridge with Robotic Arm that type in keypad to get ingredients (not just snacks or drinks, but also produce and pears.)
Aiden- Fork, Spoon, Knife, Napkin, and Straw together called Smorkin.
Adam- A robot that travels to Neptune
Rebecca- Dog Fitbit
Jessica- Pair of High Heels That have Emergency Kit built into bottom, Closet that dresses you within seconds of latest fashions, A necklace that notifies you when someone is calling you
Maya- Waterproof material that you can put on anything
Miriam- Emergency Kit in backpack or purse that gets bigger when opened, fashionable
Jenna- Bracelet with free wifi that you carry on your wrist
Emily- Closet with keypad where you type in what you want, pay for things you don’t already own, it gives you the latest fashion advice
Ben- Strep tester that you can put on your throat to avoid going to doctor
Noah- To prevent DUIs, inhaler that lowers the alcohol content
Mick- Instead of carrying backpack at school, you have folder that gets lighter as you put things in it

We had fun learning about what our peers think about our different invention ideas.

Infographics Double Sales Written by Caitlyn, Edited by Carson

We are creating infographics for our products. An infographic is something that makes people want to buy your product. When we are done, we will copy and paste these infographics into our newly created websites. We are doing this because extra information can be so much easier fit into an infographic. Once we upload our infographics to our website our customers will almost double!

Building Our Websites by Leah

In technology, we are working on our weebly websites. We are creating Weebly websites to promote our inventions that we created. Earlier this week, we started our Minecraft prototypes. We were set up to make our product prototypes out of Minecraft blocks. This helps us visualize our invention. Then, we took snapshots of our prototypes. After that, We started setting up our Weebly websites. We are still in the process of completing the websites. When we finish our websites, we will publish them so the world can see how creative our inventions are and what they will add to the world!

On Our Way to Silicon Valley by Maggie

This week in 5th grade tech we are working hard on business plans to pitch. So far, we have made a plan on how we will get the name of our product out into the real world. Next, we made a spreadsheet in Google Drive that is representative of our business costs. We translated that data into a chart to represent all of it so we can see how the percentages add up! For example, we can see how much it would cost to get furniture and a website to support our business. Our fifth grade class is well on their way to pitching our ideas in Silicon Valley!

Exploring Entrepreneurs in Action by Carly

We just visited the Atlanta Tech Village to explore what the entrepreneurs do and we got to see the building from the lobby to the very top of the roof. The bottom floor consists of those entrepreneurs that are just getting started and the top floor are the companies that are showing success. Right now, we are writing a business plan for the inventions our class has made. Later on, we will pitch our ideas to investors.

Fun on Weebly: By Jacob

This week we are making websites for our companies on Weebly. Some people are making websites for glass,  dent-proof car shields, some for bakeable cupcake pans, unique backpacks, where you could have your backpack in whatever shape or size you want, urgent cares for phones, computers, or any technical device. There are many more webpages being created on Weebly, as part of our entrepreneur unit be sure to come back next week for an update.
