Plugged In by Jared
Today in technology we are on computers. Sometimes we do unplugged activities to learn coding concepts. Today, however, we are on the website Khan Academy. Khan Academy is a website that has many courses. We are on the programming course learning how to program using JavaScript. We learn how to use variables, color with code and more. At the end of the semester, we will make a website that will have everything that we learned in Khan Academy on it.

Compression and Decompression y Joshua C.
Today we are talking about compressing and decompressing our text messages. We watched a compressing and decompressing video with a famous singer. When he sends messages of his songs and he decompresses his messages too. It's important to compress and decompress things because you want to save gigabytes.

Learning to Code by Ethan
In fifth grade technology, we are using Khan Academy to learn how to use JavaScript. It is teaching us how to make snowmen with simple beginner coding. We use simple codes like ellipse(80, 30, 45, 167); it is really fun because you get to learn to code which will be a useful tool in the future. It is amazing.

Coding Concepts by Harris
This week in class we learned some new vocabulary words. We used them to help us in our coding activity. This coding activity helped us understand functions. We also did robot games with different variables. We also did a game that involved coding cup stacking. We learned words such as function, algorithm, and abstraction. These are some of the concepts we are plugging into our code.

Getting the Trimester Started with Tech Talks Written by Joshua L. and Edited by Rafa
This week in technology, we have started the trimester by making a scratch project listing a way to be a good digital citizen. We also got our hands on the first ever Savvy Cyber Kids Cards! These cards have questions on them about digital citizenship, how to be positive citizens, and how to make good choices when using technology. We want to follow the good actions, but we also must learn what not to do. When you read the question, it will say, student answer, educator answer, or both. In conclusion, this week we were just trying to get to know each other as classmates, friends, and digital citizens.

French Fries and Sushi to Snowmen in the Sun by Gavin
We are doing Khan Academy, which is a coding website. You learn how to code things in JavaScript, like a snow man. We learn how to color the the snow man. Another thing we can do is make food on a plate using JavaScript. Yesterday, we used cards to create games using conditional statements. We learned that conditional statements allow programs to run under certain conditions.

Fun Variables by Eva
Today in technology we're creating and designing our own robot. We are currently learning how to use variables. A variables means, a place holder that is able to be changed fast and easily. For example, the variable in the song Happy Birthday is your name. You change your name according to who's birthday it is. Another example is a video game. If you can change your user name, it is a variable. So far I found nothing challenging about this project. Variables really come in handy when it comes to coding or designing.

HTML by Kyra
Today in technology, we worked on finishing our html links. We added pictures of dogs, we changed the color of our texts, we changed the background color, and changed the font of texts. We could choose from any dog picture, any color and any font. This is unfortunately our last day working on our links.

| What's For Dinner? |
Today we are in Khan Academy learning more about the basics of Java Script. Some of us are working on a simple snowman. We are making a snowman with snow and a sun using Java Script. Some other people are working on making a dinner plate, and it is where you make a program from scratch to make a dinner plate with your dream dinner! Yesterday, we played technology Jeopardy as a class. There were questions about tech vocab words and more about the computer. Vocab words included variables, conditionals, and parameter.

Coding Fun by Molly R.
| Spaghetti and Meatballs |
Right now in tech everyone is doing different activities. Some people are working on their simple snowman and some are working on what's for dinner (both coding activities). I just started to work on what's for dinner. It is not so hard but you have to remember to go step by step to complete a certain task. But instead of saying all of that you can say algorithm, which is one of our seven vocab words. Maybe you can learn some coding vocab words! You never know when they might be helpful in your life!

Unplugged Activities, Avatars, & Technology Tips by Ben and edited by Isaac
In technology we have been doing Scratch and basic coding activity's not on the computer. We call these activities unplugged. One of the non-computer activity's is a card game where we have to write a code on paper using conditionals. One more thing we did that wasn't on the computer was a cup stacking game where we had to write a code with arrows and another person had to try to be a robot and stack the cups by following the arrows. During this process, we learned that you should rethink your steps if you discover a bug in your program.
On the computer, we each made an avatar and we put our avatars in Scratch. We create avatars to protect our identity when we are online. In Scratch we made our avatars say a technology tip that we thought was important. Then, we had to post that on a padlet wall and we each got to share our Scratch creations.

Bloxels Stacking Up By: Lexi
This week in technology, we are learning how to make a game using Bloxels. Bloxels is a game where you can create your own personal game using tiny cubes. It is sometimes a little bit challenging because if you want to jump and there is something like fire next to a power up or just a patch of grass you have to find a better way to get there. My favorite part about it is that you can create almost anything you want. You just have to be creative. I learned that if you shoot at a certain block you can get a power up like a bomb, but if you don't have enough yellow coin blocks you can't use the advantage. When you first create the game you design it on a plastic grid. Then, you scan it with the Bloxels app, and there it is when you play the game!

The Joy of JavaScript by Wendell
In Technology exploratory, we are learning how to code. Specifically, we are learning JavaScript with Khan Academy. I am learning about coloring with code, and I have made the background of coloring a snowman. We started with learning about how to code the shapes like rect(), line(), and other codes like that. I like the choice of starting with the simple snowman because it doesn't get much more simple than that. Some vocabulary words we learned are, HTML which stands for Hyper Text Mark Up Language, Algorithms, and Abstractions. So far I have really enjoyed learning about coding.

Unplugged Coding by Drew
Unplugged coding is basically coding but on a sheet of graph paper. It is also a little easier than regular coding because in regular coding it is more complicated and includes colors. I think mostly everybody is getting it but some of us are struggling a little bit. We are doing this in partners so we teach each other as we go. I hope there will be more fun things to come. We have also learned about HTML, which is hyper text markup language. HTML is the base of a website that can be used with JavaScript. To conclude, I hope technology won't become more difficult but we will try to make the best of it.

New Vocab by Samantha
We have learned how to code. We learned to do conditionals. Conditionals are statements that refer to coding. If/else are the words that we use to make up a conditional statement. We created card games using conditional statements. Today we made robots and learned about variables. A variable is something that can change and is a place holder for information.

What Is An Algorithm? by Ben R.
In 5th Grade technology we have been working on learning about coding and the history of video games. We have also been learning about programming robots. Right now we are making our own algorithms (al-go-ri-thms). Algorithms are a series of instructions that get a specific task done. Take the morning, for example. In the morning, you wake up, get dressed, brush your teeth, comb your hair, and eat breakfast. That was an algorithm.
