This week in technology, we are learning how to make a game using Bloxels. Bloxels is a game where you can create your own personal game using tiny cubes. It is sometimes a little bit challenging because if you want to jump and there is something like fire next to a power up or just a patch of grass you have to find a better way to get there. My favorite part about it is that you can create almost anything you want. You just have to be creative. I learned that if you shoot at a certain block you can get a power up like a bomb, but if you don't have enough yellow coin blocks you can't use the advantage. When you first create the game you design it on a plastic grid. Then, you scan it with the Bloxels app, and there it is when you play the game!

The Joy of JavaScript by Wendell
In Technology exploratory, we are learning how to code. Specifically, we are learning JavaScript with Khan Academy. I am learning about coloring with code, and I have made the background of coloring a snowman. We started with learning about how to code the shapes like rect(), line(), and other codes like that. I like the choice of starting with the simple snowman because it doesn't get much more simple than that. Some vocabulary words we learned are, HTML which stands for Hyper Text Mark Up Language, Algorithms, and Abstractions. So far I have really enjoyed learning about coding.

Unplugged Coding by Drew
Unplugged coding is basically coding but on a sheet of graph paper. It is also a little easier than regular coding because in regular coding it is more complicated and includes colors. I think mostly everybody is getting it but some of us are struggling a little bit. We are doing this in partners so we teach each other as we go. I hope there will be more fun things to come. We have also learned about HTML, which is hyper text markup language. HTML is the base of a website that can be used with JavaScript. To conclude, I hope technology won't become more difficult but we will try to make the best of it.

New Vocab by Samantha
We have learned how to code. We learned to do conditionals. Conditionals are statements that refer to coding. If/else are the words that we use to make up a conditional statement. We created card games using conditional statements. Today we made robots and learned about variables. A variable is something that can change and is a place holder for information.

What Is An Algorithm? by Ben R.
In 5th Grade technology we have been working on learning about coding and the history of video games. We have also been learning about programming robots. Right now we are making our own algorithms (al-go-ri-thms). Algorithms are a series of instructions that get a specific task done. Take the morning, for example. In the morning, you wake up, get dressed, brush your teeth, comb your hair, and eat breakfast. That was an algorithm.

How Information Travels Across the Internet written by Emily C. and edited by Jack T.
This week we are learning about HTML. It is very interesting to learn about. We have also learned about how information travels across the internet There are a lot of steps in the process. First, you have to put your domain name in the URL (Uniform Rerecord Locator) bar. Next, it goes to their server, and the server receives the message. Third, it allows you to go on the website and do whatever you want. That is the process behind how information travels device to device!

Coding With Khan Academy by Izzy
In technology, we are learning how to code on Khan Academy. We have also learned new vocabulary words such as algorithm, nesting conditional statements, and abstraction. Algorithm means a series of instructions in a specific order to complete a specific task. A conditional statement is the rules inside of a condition using if/else statements. Abstraction means to pull out specific information to make one solution work for multiple problems. Khan Academy is teaching us how to code in a challenging, but fun way!

Coding with Shapes by Morgan
In class, we are learning how to make lines of code by using Khan Academy. Our class is being taught how to make a face using variables, ellipses, and other codes. Variables are place holders for information. Our class has also learned what an algorithm is. An algorithm is a set of instructions that makes something happen or occur. We are being educated in an enjoyable, yet difficult way. Mrs. Mittleman's class is having fun using Khan Academy and learning all about coding!

Final Week Of Tech And So Sad To Go by Avery and Ari
Mrs. Seff 's class is so sad and they will miss their wonderful teacher Mrs. Brown. It is our last week of technology. For our final week, we've been using Swift Playground. It is an app that teaches us a programming language for Apple devices. The programming language is called Swift. Swift has similarities to JavaScript because you can create your own functions, use loops to repeat functions, and some of the commands use the same terminology. Mrs. Seff 's class has had a marvelous time in technology and hope to do it next year in Middle School!

Scratch and Conditionals by Shayna
We are doing Scratch Projects. We get to make a game. I learned a lot. It is really enjoyable, but still very hard. The difficult part was thinking of an idea that you can do and learning how to make things move, but when you do it, the ending product is really cool. We also had to use conditionals. Conditionals are if one thing occurs, then somethings needs to happen, and else something different. We get to play each others games. It is really awesome to see how other peoples turned out. Scratch is a blast.

One Block at a Time by Grace
As of today, we are still working on Bloxels. Bloxels is an app, that allows children to express their game, programming, and engineering skills with characters, game building, Bloxels, elements, and much more. I personally love making new characters and watching my friends play my games that I have made. Someday, my Bloxels skills might come to use, but until then, I will take it one block at a time.

On Our Way To a Great Start! by Logan
In this week in technology, we are making our own video games using Bloxels. During this time period, we have made backgrounds, characters, enemies, and more. While making these video games we learned how to do all of the functions and are on are way to a great start. I think that all of my classmates are doing a terrific job with this project. We all have had a lot of fun doing this project so far and hope we accomplish our goals for our games!

Creating Our Own Bloxel Video Game! by Zach
This week in Technology, it has been really fun. Today, we started using Bloxels. It is our first day so it is really confusing, but we will eventually get the hang of it. Bloxels is an activity where you put little blocks on your board, scan the board on the app, then you get to use that board to create your very own video game! Bloxels are Awesome.

A Journey with JavaScript by Jayden
We are learning about programming computers, but it's not so easy right now because we just started. A lot of people in my class are understanding computer programming and we are really liking it. It can be pretty confusing at times, but we are starting to learn how to draw with code. We started with the ellipse so that eventually we will make six ellipses to create a snowman with eyes and a mouth. Are there any JavaScript experts out there? If so, we would love some tips.

What's For Dinner? by Renee
Today, me and my classmates are working on Seesaw and Khan Academy. Sadly, this week is our last week in our Tech rotation. I think everybody enjoyed Tech. I am working on What's For Dinner on Khan Academy. I am in the middle of making a pizza! I am very exited to finish it. After I finish it, I will post it on Seesaw. Seesaw is a program at which you post the things you make. I am so exited for Technology next year and my classmates are too.
